Kay Williamson, Ed.S.​

Williamson is an award-winning educator who has a successful teaching background on the Middle and High School tiers and Post-secondary graduate level. She has served as a Classroom-based Supervising Teacher (Cooperating Teacher) for several students fulfilling their practicum requirements in her classroom from various colleges and universities in Nashville, TN (Lipscomb University, Tennessee State University, and Trevecca Nazarene University) over the course of her 18 year tenure within public and private school systems. She is an effective facilitator in the educational process of teaching and learning, and has a passion for helping students and adults to have equal and fair access to educational resources and an appropriate educational experience as they matriculate and navigate their chosen academic and personal growth path. Williamson is a visionary and true Instructional Leader who uses a balanced approach of effective communication and motivational methodologies to bring about systemic change and growth.


Williamson holds Professional Teaching Licenses in the areas of Exceptional Education and General Education. She has earned a Specialist in Education degree in Educational Administration and Supervision k-12, a Master of Education degree in Special Education, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics and science. She plans to complete coursework to earn her Jurisprudence Doctorate and Doctorate of Education, and has continued her education by attending Professional Learning Institutes at Lipscomb University and Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College. She has been researching the impact of brain science on education and was selected to attend the “Neuroscience and Education: The Connection" symposium co-hosted by Currey Ingram Academy and Vanderbilt's Kennedy Center.

Williamson loves learning and always challenges herself to be better than she was the day before. She attended parochial school and began attending the University of Houston Clear Lake Gifted Math & Science program starting in the third grade. She teaches students who are identified as Intellectually Gifted as she was that they can thrive in any career they choose. Williamson has done just that and has served in prominent roles and truly charted her own path. She uses her life’s work and research as an example of perseverance and using one’s unique gifts for service and innovative thought.  

Williamson was contracted by the Tennessee Department of Education to be part of a 6 Member team to write math curriculum and assist with design and program layout for the TN Highly Qualified Academy. She was also selected to serve on a curriculum team for Alignment Nashville’s Art to STEM program. She has the proven skills and expertise to implement strategic plans to promote school-wide academic and personal growth. She has designed, conducted, and assisted with design layouts for multiple Staff Developments and faculty meetings. She also designed and implemented two intervention programs for students who are at-risk and have a learning disability.

Williamson works well with the community and capitalizes on strategic collaborations to build relationships between school districts, teachers, parents, and students. She volunteers year round to review, consult, and give recommendations for Individualized Education Programs. She has sat on Education Panels discussing research, advocate for students with exceptional needs, and speak publicly about the need for education reform with teachers leading those efforts. She has designed, budgeted, implemented, and presented three workshops for parents titled Protecting our Kids (partnering with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations and Metropolitan Nashville Police Department), Mathematic Family Fun Academic Night, and Internet Safety for Children.

Williamson works on many service projects within the Nashville community, and was honored and named in a 2010 Resolution presented at a Metropolitan Nashville City Council meeting for being an exceptional volunteer lead organizer in the North Nashville community. Ad
ditionally she has a Proclamation named in her honor signed by a Juvenile Court Clerk of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County recognizing her contribution to public education, and received a Letter of Commendation from then Governor Phil Bredesen and Commissioner of Education Lana Seivers for her support of and involvement in Junior Achievement’s educational programs. She was selected as a Fellow and received an award presented by Tennessee State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Candice McQueen, in 2012 for her research and work during Lipscomb University’s College of Education Shared Practices Fellow program. Williamson was recently selected by the National Small Business Association to serve on their Leadership Council working alongside Congressional members to bring about change—-Williamson was selected because of her platform of educating and employing individuals with disabilities and exceptional learning needs.
